What is “Blue Monday” to you?

What is “Blue Monday” to you?

Posted by BioActive Nutrients on 16th Jan 2017

I was just informed that today is called “Blue Monday.” Apparently this is a day of depression…the single glummest day of the year. So we’re having a special day to celebrate it?

Really? I think I’m going to pass.

There is a Facebook page and a website dedicated to this nonsense. They actually claim to have a formula to tell us when the most depressing day of the year is:

“It is calculated using a series of factors in a (not particularly scientific) mathematical formula. The factors are: the weather, debt level (specifically, the difference between debt and our ability to pay), the amount of time since Christmas, time since failing our new year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and the feeling of a need to take charge of the situation.”

Let’s start by realizing that actual depression is a very real thing, especially if you or a loved one has ever suffered from it. It is a life-changing situation that can ruin those who have it, and usually affects everyone close to the person suffering.

Depression is NOT a one-day event.
It can last years and lead to poor health, poor quality of living, or in some cases suicide. Depression doesn’t give those who have it the choice of how their mood will run. I’ve never really suffered from it but I’ve been very close to far too many who have. It sucks and my heart goes out to all of you who have been there.
For the rest of us, who can choose to some degree how our days roll, though, why designate a day that gives us a reason to feel glum?
For me, today is going to be awesome! Why? Because I’m going to make it awesome. I have an idea where that formula should be placed, but I’ll keep that to myself.
Yep, I spent too much money this holiday season, I’ll have to watch my spending for a little while.
Yep, it’s cold here in Wisconsin. (We’ve had several days below zero and the wind seems to be relentless this year.)
New Year’s resolutions? Nope! It’s a daily thing. After I thank God for all my blessings, I decide how I’m going to make today better than yesterday.
Low motivation levels? Based on what? Who decides that? YOU DO! So tell these clowns who want to celebrate a reason to be gloomy to do it somewhere else. Not around me. It’s my decision! I choose to be happy and find the good. I try to teach my kids that you can always find something good or something bad in every situation…it depends on what you are looking for. Look for something good. It is always more fun and satisfying.
That’s my rant. Now I’m going to have some eggs and dive into this awesome, sunny day. It’s going to be great because I’m going to make it great. Why don’t you do the same.
What makes you happy?
